Virtual Memory System on Nintendo Gamecube

Posted on Oct 28, 2007, 12:00 pm
Here at Insomniac we’re dedicated to making the best games we can for Sony’s Playstation 3 – that’s all we do and that’s all we’re concentrating on. But at the same time, that’s not to say our guys haven’t worked with other platforms. Among our tech team we have experience on a very wide range of consoles. For example, Joe Valenzuela (Engine Programmer) has previous experience working on Nintendo’s Gamecube. The Gamecube is a PowerPC-based console, so shares a lot of common ground with the Cell-PPU in the Playstation 3. Joe shared with our programmers a summary of how one might implement a virtual memory system based on his experience on the Gamecube. For some of our programmers it was a fun trip into the details of a machine they hadn’t had a chance to play with.
