Into the Nexus Good Ole’ Review Round-Up

You wanted classic Ratchet & Clank back and –well- it’s back! Into the Nexus, the epilogue to the “Future” series, drops tomorrow on the PS3 for $29.99. But, we know you! You aren’t an uninformed fan. You want reviews to back up your purchases and assure you that, “Hey. That money you just spent? Ya. Good call. You’re going to have a delightful interactive adventure.”

Well, ok! We’ve got a bevy of Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus reviews to peruse over right here. Convenient! They are quite good. Convenient!

  • IGN – 8.2 – “The characters are offbeat and funny, the story is well-paced, the art direction is distinctive and above all else it’s a blast to play, with always evolving gameplay and an ever-escalating arsenal.”
  • Gamespot – 8 – “In what may be the last Ratchet & Clank for this console generation, the series takes its leave with a proper bang, reuniting you with your favorite characters and keeping you hooting and hollering all the way to the finish line.”
  • Game Informer – 8 – “The Lombax and his metal companion are aging well, losing neither their ability to transform enemy legions into smoldering messes of nuts and bolts nor the allure that makes this action so much fun.”
  • Destructoid – 8 – “Nexus is short, sweet, and to the point, with hardly a dull moment in sight, making it a fitting conclusion to the Future series.”
  • Escapist – 8 – “Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus takes everything there is to love about the series and packs it tightly into a brief – but suitably explosive – package.”
  • Joystiq – 8 – “I’m not normally raring to play a game a second time, but the allure of powering up these guns was strong enough (and Into the Nexus‘ run-time short enough) to get me right back into it.”

There you go! Across the board you can see that reviewers took a liking to the return to Ratchet form. Fans of the series should feel right at home snuggling up to the insane arsenal, planet-hopping story, and colorful exploration that the series is known for.

So, stop reading this and just go buy the thing already. Don’t worry – the reviews have your back. Also, we have your back. Not just on buying Into the Nexus, but in life. That dream you have. Do it. We support you. Just play Into the Nexus first.

  • FGras

Too bad the pre-order DLC was not available in the Netherlands.
Than I will wait till its 20 euro or so.

  • peyton ortega

I just beat it holy crap insomniac games you left it off in a very good way honestly my favorite one so far

  • peyton ortega

I obtained the ryno 7 30 mins ago holy crap it’s awesome

  • Dylan Irvin

cant wait to play this game, Insomniac continue to deliver near-perfect ratchet & Clank games every year and I don’t think they get enough credit for what they do

  • Alexander Sollinger Sundberg

Sounded like they thought it was awesome, but a little short, that’s what I was afraid about… I knew it’d be EPIC. But the length and depth of the game wa sthe thing I was/am most concerned about…

  • Bakir

In my opinion it needed to be a tad longer.

    • rifluegge

U should be satisfied I loved All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault but those kind of games will never beat classic Ratchet gameplay and your still not satisfied with Into the Nexus. Would u rather have them make more games like FFA and A4O? Probably not. U should be satisfied with what u get.

      • Bakir

All I said was it needed to be longer Imo. I love this game!!!! Of course I will choose this over the last 2. Collected everything and now gonna try platinum it. Relax dude learn to accept what others believe. Insomniac left on a good note cannot wait to see what is next.

  • tooawesome4username

    Awesome

  • Lamar

insomniac i have a question are you done creating games for ratchet and clank? Is the series . . . . OVER!? Please don’t end it yet. By the way great job on ratchet and clank into the nexus just beat the game last night. I know you guys are probably working on the movie in 2015 but are you guys going to do anything in 2014? Another game perhaps?

    • rifluegge

      Its not over

      • Colby

I wouldn’t think so after seeing the end of Into The Nexus. Besides, with a movie coming out and all, there’s no reason to just quit.

  • Cosmicbeing

This is my favorite game and the main reason I have a ps3. I was looking over the site and I haven’t seen anything for the ps4. I’m hoping there’s something coming and getting my R & C games ported over to ps4 somehow.

    • rifluegge

If there gonna make the games for PS4 then I hope they will make them for both PS3 and PS4

      • Colby

I think they said the PS4 will be able to operate PS3 games.

  • Daniel Emmerson

this game is CRAP, no character development, only about 4 hours, 5 planets, and nothing more than a re-skinned weapon inventory. there are NO memorable characters and NOTHING to offer. I am not trolling for attention, “a crack in time” was a fantastic game and worthy of its own right of being the final game to the series. THIS GAME on the other hand is nothing more than a wank fest, glorifying ratchet and clank, even going so far as to put a MUSEUM of their previous exploits. i love the ratchet and clank series, and i was exited as all hell to get the latest installment, but this is not what the fans deserve, and this is NOT what the dynamic duo themselves deserve.

    • Lamar

man that’s just cold the game was pretty good for a a short DLC. I just hope this isn’t the very last ratchet and clank game!

      • rifluegge

        its not, THINK POSITIVE

    • rifluegge

Have u even played the game this game is way better than a crack in time even though that was really fun to. but your retarded this is a great ending to the series and the Prog twins are very memorable characters u itch-bay

      • Daniel Emmerson

i have played EVERY. SINGLE. INSTALLMENT. to this series, if you liked it, good for you. are there decent parts? yes its a ratchet and clank game, however these moments happen to few and far apart. but i will repeat myself as many times as i need to, in order to get it through your thick skull. THIS IS NOT THE GAME THAT RATCHET AND CLANK DESERVE!

        • rifluegge

The whole game is amazing, if u don’t like it your no fan of ratchet, this game is one of the best in the series. You must be pretty stupid to not recognize the Prog twins as “memorable characters”.

          • Daniel Emmerson

the “prog twins” have no character, hell, i forgot their names within 10 minutes of finishing the game. they start out promising yes, as does the rest of the game, but it all falls to pieces after level one. this does not improve on the established characters. go back and play the other games, WATCH the character development, and then come back to me and say how much more ratchet and clank grew as people, besides ratchet saying that he can relate to the anagonists occasionally.

    • Colby

Would you rather there not be another installment at all?

    • Giannis Thalassinos

I have no idea how you think this was crap, the game is a return to what R&C is all about. The Museum was brilliant and I loved it, it reminded me of all the previous titles that were outstanding. This game took elements from just about every previous (main) instalment and put it into one super fun game. If you think that’s crap, then you just crapped on every previous R&C game.

      • Daniel Emmerson

if you’ve read the other comments that ive replied with, you would know that i love ratchet and clank. they are one of my favorite gaming ip’s. the storys, the character development, the big-ass guns! but come on really? 5 planets and 4 hours? the previous games SNEEZE that at you. im not saying that short stories cant be fun, but come on this is a ratchet and clank game! your supposed to be embarking on an epic adventure on a galactic scale to save the universe! instead of saving it from what was ANOTHER inderdimensional race, and now that i think about it there are ALOT of similarities between tachyon and… the prog sister. (cant remember her name). this game had a glimmer of hope of it being the next big AAA game, but blew its 3 3/4 hexagonal washer on the way.

        • Giannis Thalassinos

See, that’s where you are going wrong, you expect this to be the next big R&C title, and if that were the case, and it had a AAA price tag, then yes, I completely agree, this was not what it could have been, but it was never designed to be a long game, it’s a small, fun, little finale that celebrated the franchise’s rich history and a sign that R&C is going back to its roots. From what I can tell, I’m assuming the next R&C would most likely be on the PS4 and we will get to do exactly what you expected with this game, embark on an epic adventure on a galactic scale to save the universe. But for this game, you need to enjoy it for what it is, not for what you want it to be. That will come soon enough.

          • Daniel Emmerson

just because its a nod to the original games does not excuse the lack of effort that was put into the game, just cuz they may go on a grand adventure NEXT time doesnt mean that ththis shouldn’t have been one of itself, heck immediatly after finishing the game i thought of a way to DOUBLE the play time to about 8 hours (average game length), after “mr eye” is killed off the sister swoops down feeling rejected and absorbs the remaining energy, forcing her brother to decide as to continue to protect his sister from authorities, or protecting the universe. THAT is character development, THAT is how you introduce contrast of interests within a SINGLE character. as ive said to another person on this site if youve had fun with it great, good for you, there were even parts i liked. but the stakes werent high enough, character development was virtually nonexistant, and the gameplay wasnt varied enough when compared to other games in the series.

          • Bakir

It was very short that is the major reason why it lacked character development. However moments like Cronk and Zephers deaths Ratchet didn’t really care afterwards there was no emotion. Talwyn just carried on casually like nothing happened. Your way of extending the play time was a great Idea. If only it happened :(

          • Giannis Thalassinos

Your problem with this game is extremely obvious, it wasn’t as long as what you wanted it to be. The story can very easily be extended so that the game would play as long as ACIT, but Insomniac went with a short story. That doesn’t sound like a lack of effort, it sounds like a design choice based on how much time they had for the project. I would have loved for it to have been a longer game too but we can’t have everything. The game itself was a blast to play and I’m just happy to see that Insomniac still cares about what the original fans of the series want from a R&C game, which is awesome/fun weapons, exploration and humour that everyone can enjoy all wrapped in a nice story. And that’s more or less what we got, minus a little bit on exploration. Also, about character development, R&C 2 didn’t have much of that….. neither did most of 3. Or even Deadlocked. Character development started happening more in the Future series due to the underlying theme of Ratchet trying to find the other Lombaxes. But guess what? The PS2 titles were incredible games nonetheless. And Nexus is a nice way to end the Future series. Also, guys, can we not post spoilers up here? Not cool.

          • Daniel Emmerson

i dont mind short stories, heck one of my favorite games for my playstation 3 is journey, in indie-developed game, that only lasted about 5 hours, however even without dialogue i found my self caring much more than i did when i played into the nexus. and as for the second installment into the series, yes, i agree with you that there was not a whole lot of charachter development, HOWEVER it still at least brought up the point that there was credence that it was possible for other lombaxes to exist other than ratchet (even though its established in r-c future series that ratchet, his father and azimuth were the ONLY lombaxes in the universe so wtf imsomniac)

          • Giannis Thalassinos

No they made it clear that the other lombaxes are in “another dimension” at the moment because they tried to escape from Tachyon. They’re still in the same universe. I think calling it another dimension doesn’t make much sense personally, instead they should have said realm like they did with Nexus but that’s a different argument for another day. About your comment on the second title, I highly doubt that the only reason you liked that game was because Insomniac gave you a hint that there are other lombaxes in the universe. My point is this, people play R&C because it’s fun, if you’re looking for something other than fun in this game, you’re looking at the wrong franchise, and anyone who is not too sure about this game and is a long time R&C fan, they should give it a shot, because it is far from “CRAP”, it’s exactly what made past R&C games such a blast to play.

  • Lamar

Please create another ratchet and clank game 2014 or in 2016 after the movie! Create a new series on the playstation 4! I know this might sound lame since i,m only 13 years old but me and my friends had made a game. We had characters and new weapons. Nothing copyed just on paper and posters! We called it Ratchet and clank revolution! Just throwing ideas out there for new ratchet and clank games. But not that you guys need it you guys are masters.

    • rifluegge

they are making another game after the movie, so they will get new fans of the franchise when young kids will see the movie and will then want to play a game on it

      • Lamar

        yeah i think your right!

  • Lamar

i wont lie the end to into the nexus was sort of incomplete

    • rifluegge

      How so?

      • Lamar

well because ratchet never found the lombaxes? my question is what next! It was a really amazing game just had a cliff hanger that all. If you disagree i can respect your opinion.

  • LordFawlk

I got Nexus on the 12th. It is now the 14th and have allready Beaten it. I am not 100 % happy with it. It played more like Tools of Destruction. But it seemed too easy to beat and not as long as was Quest for Booty. Booty was a fun version I thought and hard enuff to make it interesting. But Nexus is more of a let down. It was fun but now it is over and I don’t think I will want to play it again soon.

    • rifluegge

There is still challenge mode where u can get megas of all the awesome weapons on the game. If u think its so easy turn on Legend difficulty. Nexus is a lot longer than Qwest for Booty and it has a lot more to do on it.

  • rifluegge

At least in my top 2 for favorite Ratchet game. I am on the 5th challenge mode it is so fun.

  • Guest

Even if it was short, I still love it! It added more to the overall story, brought back characters as well as new ones, and the gameplay was great. I’m looking forward to replaying the game, whether it be on challenge mode or starting a new game from scratch.
I am also looking forward to the next chapter in the series!
    My thanks to Insomniac!

    Ryno 7 is amazing

  • Lamar

I wonder if insomniac is working on any ratchet and clank for ps4?

  • Daniel Emmerson

As many of you have noticed (if you scroll down) you will notice that many people displayed shock and almost outright horror that i had the indignity to call “into the nexus” a BAD GAME. i should clarify. This installment into the series is NOT bad. In fact there are many things about it that are good. HOWEVER as an actual part of this series i do not believe it is good, for the many, many reasons that i have made abundantly clear in my previous comments. The only reason i said what i said is BECAUSE i love ratchet and clank, and don’t want to see their good name trampled over. that being said STOP SENDING ME REASONS ABOUT WHY THE GAME IS GOOD! i will not respond to any more comments, specifically because my inbox has become flooded with these comments. therefore any more comments i find in my inbox will immediately be disregarded and deleted. i will not read them. i will not RESPOND to them. i have had ENOUGH! just because i enjoy ratchet and clank does not mean that they are the center of my gaming universe. there are other games i love like the legend of Zelda, and assassins creed, and i will happily point out problems in THOSE games for the same reason i just gave for ratchet and clank. i love these games (i especially had problems with the framing device for black flag, but im not gonna open up that can of worms). so once again i will no longer respond to any more comments directed at me from this site.

    have a pleasant day

I love the Ratchet and clank, but can anyone answer this question…How can I save a game for my son to play, and a game for me to play. it only gives you the option of continuing a game not start one. Help please.I started playing and now my son wants his own and he can not find where he can start a new game.
