If you want to get coffee, staple or paperclip things together, wallpaper your cube with post-its, stay anonymous and watch YOUTUBE all day- then this is NOT the internship for you! Here at Insomniac Games, our interns are imbedded in the teams, working on real tasks, and real gameplay features and creatures! This is an opportunity for energetic college students to get their hands dirty and to learn some really great (and applicable) skills! You will be working side by side with some of the most talented people in the industry- and doing what you and we love to do - MAKE GAMES! We are looking for motivated and driven candidates who are interested in working in the fast paced and ever changing environments of our Audio, Design and Programming Departments!

GAMEPLAY INTERN

BURBANK
We have two openings within our gameplay programming department this summer- so we are looking for students who have a proven track record of creating fun gameplay code, and who are ready to take their skills to the next level. You'll be part of a team of skilled programmers who have created some of the best gameplay on the PlayStation.
 
Duties for the Gameplay Internship positions include working on breakable/interactive objects, stats tracking, data pipeline and interface, working in cheats, skill points, code reviews, and of course the ever popular bug tracing and fixing… You could also be improving visual effects including explosions, weapon effects, fire, smoke, and weather. The interns will have the opportunity to be mentored by senior members of the Programming team.
  
Internship Qualifications:
Candidates must be full-time students enrolled at a college or university, working towards a BS/BSE in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. We will also consider Physics or Math majors with computer programming experience. Master’s or PhD candidates may also apply for this internship. An ideal intern would be energetic, self-motivated, creative, and responsible, have a passion for video games and programming and be willing to work hard.
 
Students must be available to intern 5 days per week/ approx. 40+ hours a week, and this is a paid internship. Duration of internship is flexible. These internships are based in Burbank California, and relocation reimbursements or housing stipends are not available for this position.

DESIGN INTERN

BURBANK
We are looking for a design intern who understands the fundamentals of what makes a game good or even better- great. The ideal candidate should have an eye for detail and a flair for the unexpected. We are looking for someone who is interested in pursuing design as a chosen career and who is enthusiastic about learning every aspect of the development process. A successful candidate should be familiar with 3D packages such as Maya, and have strong game scripting skill or programming experience. The intern’s primary responsibility will involve implementation of setups, “atmosphere”, and tweaking and tuning game mechanics. Passion and knowledge of the industry is much appreciated. The intern will have the opportunity to be mentored by senior members of the Design team.
 
Internship Qualifications:
Candidate must be a full-time student enrolled at a college or university, and an ideal intern will be working towards a degree in Design or a related field. Candidates should be energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, have a passion for next gen video games, and an understanding of what makes them fun (or not), and be willing to work hard. Basic familiarity with a 3D package such as Maya or 3DSMax is required; experience with Maya is preferred. Applicant must have scripting experience, preferably with LUA or Python, but knowledge of other programming or scripting languages is acceptable. Previous experience with level-editing tools, such as Unreal, Hammer, or Radiant is a plus. Master’s candidates may apply for this internship.

AUDIO INTERN

BURBANK
Insomniac Games is looking for an audio intern who is passionate about producing audio for games. We are looking for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in game audio and who wants to learn all aspects of what it takes to create, edit, implement and fine tune audio during the development process. Some of the intern’s responsibilities will include sound effect design and creation, assistance with dialogue editing and processing, stub dialogue recording and preparation, sound effect material mapping, reverb volume placement in the game world using 3D tools, attachment of sound effects to animation sequences, capturing video footage from our game engine to be used for reference for audio creation, and lua music and sound effect scripting.
 
 
Internship Qualifications
Candidates must be enrolled at a college or university and working toward a degree with emphasis on audio production, recording or engineering, preferably within game development field. Candidates should be energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, have a passion for next gen video games, and an understanding of what makes them fun (or not), and be willing to work hard. Basic familiarity with audio production and editing software such as Pro Tools or Sound Forge is required. Additional experience with field recording and microphone setups, dialogue editing, sound effect creation and editing and post-processing preferred. Lua scripting or familiarity with a similar scripting language is a plus but not required. Previous experience with audio implementation using mod level editors such as Unreal is also a plus.

ART INTERN

Insomniac Games is looking for an art intern to creating stunning in-game models. Our ideal candidate is passionate about pursuing a career in game development with strong foundation skills, a solid understanding of production design, and expert-level proficiency with image software. Responsibilities include organic and hard-surface prop modeling, texture painting, shader creation, object placement, and collision polish. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a talented student to experience a fast-paced game production environment.
 
Internship Qualifications
Candidates must be enrolled at a college or university and working toward a degree in CG Modeling, Illustration, Graphic Design, Product Design, or Fine Art. Candidates should demonstrate critical thinking skills, an eye for detail, the ability to work with a team, and a consuming desire to master their craft by learning from experienced developers.
 
Proficiency with modeling software (Maya, Max or the equivalent), sculpting software (Z-brush or Mudbox), and image editing software (photoshop) is required. Additional experience with shader creation tools or writing Cg shaders is a plus.

INTERFACE DESIGN INTERN

BURBANK
We are looking for a talented intern to help us with our User Interface! In this internship you would be helping in the design and implementation of all our User Interface elements. Some of the detailed things that you would be to working closely on with our seasoned UI designer would be to design and implement HUD, menus, and lobby. Getting the opportunity work with designer and programmers on next gen game tools UI and designs- is an added bonus. Plus other duties may be assigned- it all depends on you!
 
Internship Qualifications:
Candidate must be a full-time student enrolled at a college or university, and an ideal intern will be working towards an undergraduate degree, or post graduate degree in design, graphic design, web design or a related field. Candidates should be energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, and have a passion for next gen video games and be willing to work hard. Experience with FLASH, is a must. Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus. Applicant must have basic scripting experience, with action scripting.
