You know in old foreign films when the dialogue just does not match with the actor’s expressions or what shape their mouth is making? It’s funny to some extent, but then it just gets old, and then you just have to wonder if anyone cared enough to take the time and make it right. Well… here is your chance to care! Insomniac Games is looking for a Cinematic Audio Specialist, to be the contact for all cinematic audio requests and meetings during all phases of development and to manage and oversee all aspects of the cinematic audio creation and scheduling for all studio projects.
What this position will be doing:
• Creates audio mixes and implements cinematic audio into the project build pipeline.
• Requests bids and makes recommendations to Audio Director on hiring of external cinematic audio services. Coordinates deliverables and manages quality and accuracy of external services which may include original cinematic audio design, localized foreign language cinematic mixes, cinematic foley sound design and cinematic audio mixing.
• Coordinates internal and external cinematic schedules. Maintains and facilitates cinematic audio deliverables for all milestones.
• Responsible for audio requests for marketing videos and be in attendance during mix sessions with external studios used by various ad agencies.
• Oversight of cinematic audio quality and consistency with game audio sounds and gain settings.
• Works with our creative and animation teams on the pacing and timing of dialogue for cinematic scenes.
• Provides scratch tracks and mixes for pre-production playblasts and storyboard cinematics.
• Attends offsite shoots and sessions, to oversee audio requirements as needed (reliable transportation is needed.)
• This position has no direct supervisory duties internally, however this position helps supervise and manage external cinematic audio contractors.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and five years or greater video game development experience in original sound effect design, creation, mixing and processing with emphasis on cinematic audio or equivalent combination of education and experience. Film audio production/post-production experience a plus.
• Certification as Pro Tools Operator or Pro Tools Expert with specialization in post-production curriculum.
• Three years or greater surround and stereo mixing experience using professional quality console(s). (Digidesign Control-24 mixing console experience preferred.)
• Thorough understanding of audio compression technologies, effect plug-ins, outboard gear, mixer routing configurations and surround sound formats.
• Must be skilled in managing individuals or a small team and negotiating contracts and budgets with vendors, in conjunction with the Audio Director.
Computer Skills
• Proficient with Digidesign Pro Tools mixing software/hardware and session set-up.
• Proficient with PC-based sample editors (Sound Forge) and DirectX/outboard effects processors.
• Experience with LUA and other text-based scripting languages.
• Knowledgeable with both PC and Mac-based operating systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Project or other schedule creation software.
