SENIOR GAMEPLAY PROGRAMMER- NETWORKING

Insomniac Games is looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer who can join our battle against lag, dropped packets, flakey routers (those are the worst!), and other vile evils of the Internet as we continue to shatter conventional (and maybe unconventional) wisdom about the limitations of online gameplay.
 
 
Major Duties of this position:
• Implement network-synchronized game code including enemy behaviors, player interaction, vehicles, etc.
• Maintain and extend the development of our current game networking systems.
• Design and Implement networking architectures for future generation technologies.
• Work with other programmers to interface with all project subsystems, including character control, AI, and physics.
• Work with external vendors to develop solutions using and/or extending their online service SDKs.
 
What you bring to the table:
• Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have shipped three titles.
• Experience programming network games.
• Understanding of dead reckoning, latency, object synchronization, bandwidth and the effects on the gameplay experience.
• Extensive knowledge of C and C++.
• Strong 3D math skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Visual Studio experience, LUA, XML, and Maya experience a plus
• Familiarity in assembly level programming a plus.
 
Over the Top Skills:
* An avid gamer with a passion for creating top-quality games.
* Broad understanding of computer and game networking systems, including DNS, NAT, firewall, security methods, peer-to-peer and client server models.

• Creating high quality in-game and cinematic animations using motion capture data.
• Hand keying realistic motion on other assets that require animation including creatures, weapons, vehicles, etc.
• Working well in a highly collaborative environment with other animators, designers, and programmers, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and take direction well.

Tools and Tricks that you bring with you must include the following:

Insomniac Games is looking for a fantastic artist to create effects to work and assist in gameplay, environment, and cinematics of our games.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Create, design and implement real-time particle effects using both static and animating 2D/3D elements
• Place effects throughout levels and cinematics
• Paint particle and decal textures
• Ambient, environmental and weather effects
• Create simulations for gameplay elements
• Prototype effect concepts for gameplay and engine
• Help guide further development of internal effects editing tools
• Other duties may be assigned
 
Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficient with advanced shading networks in Unreal, Maya, or equivalent.
• Competent working with joints and locators, basic keyframing, and rigid body simulations.
• Proficient in Photoshop for painting and editing textures.

What you would be doing:
• Collaborates with the Character Team to create and apply textures and shaders on character assets that provide the desired look and feel of the art direction of the project.
• Demonstrates creativity and the ability to adapt to various game styles and graphic styles.
• Maintains consistency and quality on all textures and shaders created for characters, weapons, and vehicles.
• Understands memory and frame-rate budgets.
• Works with engineers to create new shader types such as skin, hair, metal, and other surfaces.
• May also be looked upon to provide texture and shader support for environments and other assets.

Insomniac Games is looking for a Senior Designer to oversee designs from conception to completion for projects through the development of playable levels including layout, modeling, gameplay, scripting and balancing. What you would be doing: duties and responsibilities include:
• Design levels in 2D, build out 3D roughs in Maya, work with artists to ensure that the levels are built to spec.
• Design and write specs for weapons, AI behavior, and other design-related features. Ensure features and assets are implemented correctly and are up to Insomniac’s high quality standards by communicating regularly with other departments.
• Maintain macro design and project vision.
• Review and approve level designs.
• Attends focus tests, writes up results and presents plan to make necessary changes, and ensures appropriate gameplay tuning (pre and post focus test.)
• Develop prototype game systems and interactions during pre-production, in coordination with the pre-production team members
• Maintain the design of, and coordinate the development and polish of major game systems throughout production
• Balances the needs of the design department with the logistical and artistic needs of other departments
• Be a mentor for the design team and assist with their professional growth at Insomniac Games
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure the timely completion of design goals that meet or exceed the high qualitative expectations of Insomniac Games
• Frequently play all levels, and review all features and game mechanics for fun factor. Provide feedback and suggest necessary design changes.
